The Michigan Council of Teachers of English
Click Here for information on MCTE’s Fall Conference The Michigan Council of Teachers of English (MCTE), serving English language arts teachers since 1924 and composed of K-university educators, is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English. MCTE is committed to the provision of information, professional development offered throughout the state by various ELA organizations as well as universities, current legislation affecting education, teacher and university-based research, and inclusive viewpoints with regard to all of the above, so that teachers may make decisions about pedagogical practices which they feel best match their student populations and teaching philosophies. Our publications, The Michigan English Teacher (eMet) and Language Arts Journal of Michigan (LAJM), along with our annual conferences, Autumn Assembly and Bright Ideas, invite member participation while keeping educators informed of the latest and most effective ways to facilitate critical literacy through authentic planning and evaluation of students.MCTE offers K-university educators a system of continually evolving digital support through our listserv, website, blog, and possible future wikis and podcasats as we connect colleagues with peers who strive to provide students with effective classroom practices, address community concerns, and become aware of legislative developments.
Why join the MCTE? Two reasons: your students and your colleagues. As a professional, you want to make sure your classroom methods reflect best practice in the field. Joining MCTE gives you 24/7 access to fellow English language arts teachers. You are invited to share, vent, converse, or just listen; it’s up to you! To become a member of the MCTE, complete the Membership Application (Adobe Reader is required to view the form), include your payment of $40 ($25 for full-time students), and send it to:MCTEPO Box 81152Rochester, MI 48308-1152Click here to pay for your MCTE membership by using PayPal.
